History

The hazardous waste program began in 1989 with the collection of batteries, motor oil, and paint (BOP program) at the Marin Recycling Center. Eventually, the facility was moved to its current location were other toxic and dangerous wastes such as household cleaners, pesticides, and propane tanks are collected. In 1992, the County received a grant to expand the facility offering residents and commercial customers more flexible hours to properly dispose of their household hazardous wastes.
