About Marin Household Hazardous Waste

Marin Household Hazardous Waste is a countywide program operated by Zero Waste Marin to help residents safely manage household hazardous products and keep harmful materials out of the environment.

Why Household Hazardous Waste Collection Matters

Marin’s Household Hazardous Waste Program supports the County’s compliance with California’s waste-management requirements under AB 939 and other state laws. The program provides residents with safe options for managing household hazardous products that should not be placed in the garbage or poured down drains.

The Permanent HHW Facility

The Permanent Household Hazardous Waste Facility in San Rafael provides a convenient, year-round disposal option for eligible Marin County residents. The facility accepts a wide range of household hazardous products for safe handling, recycling, reuse, and disposal.

The program is funded through fees collected as part of Marin County’s waste management system. These funds support the operation of the Household Hazardous Waste Program, including safe collection and management of hazardous materials, recycling and reuse efforts, and public education.

About Zero Waste Marin

Zero Waste Marin is a Joint Powers Authority representing all 11 cities and towns in Marin County and the unincorporated areas of the County. Its mission is to protect Marin’s natural resources by promoting waste prevention, reuse, repair, and more mindful purchasing.
