The Marin Household Hazardous Waste Facility provides hazardous waste disposal for businesses that generate up to 27 gallons or 220 pounds of hazardous waste per month.
Business drop-offs are by appointment only, and fees apply.

Use the Novato HHW Facility for household hazardous waste disposal.
You will need a Hazardous Waste ID number before you contact us to schedule an appointment. The exception is for electronic waste, household batteries, fluorescent bulbs, and latex paint, which do not require an ID number.
The Hazardous Waste ID Number, issued by the California Department of Toxic Substance Control (DTSC), identifies each handler of hazardous waste on hazardous waste manifests and other paperwork. The ID Number enables regulators to track waste from its origin to final disposal (“cradle to grave”). For more information, visit DTSC’s Hazardous Waste Generators page .
Temporary Hazardous Waste Number: If your business generates hazardous waste only once or twice a year, you may want to apply for a Temporary Hazardous Waste Number.
Permanent Hazardous Waste Number: If your business generates hazardous waste monthly, you need to apply for a Permanent Hazardous Waste Number. This process can take up to 15 business days and is necessary for businesses that regularly drop off hazardous waste at our facility.
Visit the California Department of Toxic Substance Control (DTSC) to apply for a Hazardous Waste ID Number.

Important: Oxygen tanks are not accepted
Important: Marine flares are not accepted at HHW facilities. Marine flares are handled through Zero Waste Marin’s Boat & Marina Hazardous Waste programs.
Electronic devices are accepted at the Marin HHW Facility; electric appliances are not. Computers, TVs, phones and other electronics can be recycled here. Electric appliances such as toasters, blenders, coffee makers, fans, humidifiers, irons, vacuum cleaners, refrigerators and air conditioners can be recycled for a fee at the Marin Resource Recovery Center in San Rafael. Recycle household paint for free through PaintCare at participating drop-off locations throughout Marin County. Accepted products include house paint, primers, stains, sealers, and other qualifying coatings.
Important: Solidified cooking oil can go in your compost cart.
